ACTING FOR HEALTH: THEATRE INTERVENTIONS TO TACKLE PUBLIC HEALTH CHALLENGES

Workshop overview

This workshop will introduce participants to the powerful impact on public health challenges that Acting for Health’s theatre interventions have, particularly in engaging and communicating with patients, healthcare professionals, communities and the wider public.

 

Scope of workshop

The Acting for Health workshop will include:

• a brief introduction to the Acting for Health methodology and applications relevant to tropical diseases research and control (among many other public health challenges)

• examples of recent projects – focus on tackling persistant schistosomiasis infections in a rural fishing community in Uganda

• an interactive group improvisation about challenges suggested or faced by the participants  

 

Workshop objectives

• to have an insight and understanding into Acting for Health’s behaviour change methodologies and unique reach in complementing traditional disease control strategies  

• to illustrate how Acting for Health’s theatre interventions engage and empower patients and communities in a powerful and relevant way

• to link Acting for Health’s solutions to the participants current challenges in research, behaviour-change, stigma alleviation…
